Or is it not that simple? There is no real scientific explanation why and how we can control our physical body with what we think and emotionally feel.

But there is consensus that brainpower goes beyond the straight forward medical science.

It’s more than Descartes famous “Cogito Ergo Sum” “I think and therefore I am”

Today we can add to it that with our brainpower we sometimes are able to repair our physical body or even make it sick.

Science does not explain the “magic” behind it but acknowledges that indeed we can influence our physical well-being with positive or negative thoughts. It’s a proven fact that our thoughts have an immediate impact on our immune system.

Let’s emphasize that our mind’s power and influence on healing is not a replacement for medical treatment. We support the regular medical approach.

While mental practices can complement traditional medical approaches, they should not be considered as a stand alone treatment for serious health conditions.

But there is clear evidence that negative thinking and emotions like stress, anxiety, and prolonged negative mental states can have a serious and severe impact on our physical health.

While these circumstances might not directly cause a specific illness, they certainly can contribute to a weakened immune system and exacerbate certain health conditions.

Chronic stress and negative emotions have been associated with increased inflammation in the body, which is linked to various health problems such as cardiovascular issues, arthritis, and more.

Negative emotions can exacerbate symptoms of existing health conditions such as asthma, chronic pain, gastrointestinal issues, and others.

Negative thinking can also directly affect mental health, leading to conditions like depression and anxiety, which in turn can impact physical health.

On the contrary, positive thoughts can cause an opposite reaction making patients less susceptible for developing illnesses. Positive thinking and emotions lead without doubt to emotional resilience. Positive emotions have the scientific purpose helping the body recover from ill effects of persistent negative emotions.

Research has shown that believing in the effectiveness of a treatment can sometimes lead to perceived improvements, even if the treatment itself is inert.

This demonstrates the power of the mind is directly influencing our health condition.

Placebo medicine can help to believe in healing effects. Not the placebo it selves but the mind heals.

Mind and body are interconnected. Stress, for example, can have a detrimental effect on our physical health, while relaxation techniques like meditation or mindfulness can help alleviate certain health issues.

Hatred and feeling negative can push patients into a deteriorating health condition as joy and happiness cause an upswing.

The placebo effect is today a well-documented phenomenon. It is acknowledged that a person can experience an improvement in symptoms after receiving a treatment that is not pharmacologically active.

Scientists agree that this effect is believed to be driven by the individual’s belief in the treatment’s effectiveness, demonstrating the influence of the mind on perceived health outcomes.

The conclusion is also that poorly-managed negative emotions are not good for your health. There is an extremely important role of forgiveness.

Forgiveness means fully accepting that a negative event has occurred and relinquishing our negative feelings surrounding the circumstance.  Something that’s not always easy.

Research shows that forgiveness helps us experience better mental, emotional and physical health.

The “Stanford Forgiveness Project” shows it.

Stanford University trained 260 adults in forgiveness in a 6-week course. The result is amazing.

  • 70% reported a decrease in their feelings of hurt
  • 13% experienced reduced anger
  • 27% experienced fewer physical complaints (for example, pain, gastrointestinal upset, dizziness, etc.)

Live your life in a positive way and forgive. Be thankful in all things. It sounds like religion but it’s nothing more than the way our brain and body operates.
