World must prepare for new disruption as new virus outbreak looms

The latest on a row of scary viruses threatening the globe is the Marburg virus. The dead and destruction causing Marburg virus is already spreading fast through Africa.

Last month in Equatorial Guinea nine people were killed by the virus. At least 16 suspected cases were recorded.

The World Health Organization issued an alarm that it may take a while to develop adequate treatments and vaccines to cure this recent most severe disease. Widely available treatments that really do the job may take years from now to develop.

Marburg is worse than Ebola. Ebola was so far one of the most deadly known viruses on the planet.

These are air borne viruses with Marburg recognized as one of the deadliest pathogens ever discovered.

As the virus with an extreme high mortality rate of 88 percent is also found in Cameroon, fear is rising that the virus spreads widely unrecognized.

The most optimistic scenarios predict at least 50% of the injected population will die.

As science is feverish seeking for a cure, experts identified 28 experimental vaccine candidates that could be effective against the virus. Many of these vaccines are proven effective against Ebola.

Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Public Health Vaccines and the Sabin Vaccine Institute are almost ready to begin to test vaccines in the current Marburg outbreaks.

As the jabs from Janssen and Sabin passed earlier clinical trials, dark side of the story is that none of these vaccines are available in large quantities.
